This decorative coffee cup adorns the famous Meissen onion pattern. Saxony's Elector, "August the Strong" was throughout his life particularly fond of blue painted tableware, special porcelain, hand-painted after the Chinese model. He demanded equivalent tableware from his manufactory. In fact, the onion pattern does not actually represent onions, but shows pomegranate, peach, bamboo stick and delicate flowers, following the model. In the unique dinner service of the "New Cutout" shape, characteristic features of the decorative classic find modern aesthetics. The coffee cup is a stage for elaborate decorations, hand-painted on fine porcelain, a work of art and tableware in one.
